Wisdom the Ornament, Love the Lineage

ਗਿਆਨ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥

Spiritual wisdom is the incomparable decoration of the happy soul-bride.
ਸਾ ਸਭਰਾਈ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੪॥
saa sabhraa-ee sundree pir kai hayt pi-aar. ||4||
She is so beautiful - she is the queen of all; she enjoys the love and affection of her Husband Lord. ||4||

In plain words

Spiritual wisdom beyond compare — that is the adornment of the radiant bride.

She is the noblest of all, and beautiful — held in the love and affection of her Beloved.

Wisdom is the ornament, love is the lineage — every rank the world assigns, the Beloved reassigns.
The deeper layer

The bride's finest jewelry is wisdom, and her high rank comes from love.

Gi-aan apaar seegaar hai — boundless wisdom is her adornment. Gi-aan means spiritual wisdom, deep understanding. In that age, a woman's worth, and a soul's, was often measured by jewelry, family name, or the color of her skin. This verse quietly turns that upside down. It is understanding that makes a person shine.

Saa sabhraa-ee sundree — she is beautiful and queenly, the noblest of all. Her rank, too, comes from whom she loves and who loves her. Think of a team captain chosen not for the fanciest shoes, but for helping everyone play well. Beauty, family, standing: the world hands these out at birth. Here love and wisdom hand them out instead, and any soul can wear them.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a person truly radiant to you — and how much of it can be bought or inherited?
