Souls Are Dyed in a Shared Vat

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਸੁ ਰਪਸੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
jis no aapay rangay so rapsee satsangat milaa-ay.
Only those whom the Lord imbues, are so imbued; they join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.

pooray gur tay satsangat oopjai sehjay sach subhaa-ay. ||5||
From the Perfect Guru, the Sat Sangat emanates, and one easily merges into the Love of the True One. ||5||

In plain words

Only those He Himself dyes take the color — and He joins them to the Sat Sangat, the true company.

From the Perfect Guru the Sat Sangat wells up.

There, with easy calm, one merges into the True Love.

Souls, like cloth, are dyed in a shared vat — the company deepens everyone's color.
The deeper layer

The One colors us together, in good company.

Jis no aapay rangay so rapsee — only those the One Himself dyes take the color. Now the Dyer is named plainly. The dye-house is named too: the Sat Sangat, the true company of people who love the One.

Cloth is not dyed one thread at a time. It is dipped together in a shared pot. In the same way, people take the True Color in company, and each one makes the color deeper for the others. Think of a campfire. Each log burns brighter because the others are burning beside it. The verse adds that the Sangat itself springs from the Perfect Guru. The shared pot is the Guru's gift. There, the merging happens sehjay, with natural ease, the way cloth drinks up color, with no force needed.

A Question to Sit With

Who around you deepens your color — and whose color do you deepen?
