In plain words

So search and refine this mind and body — reflecting on the Guru's Word.

O Nanak, within this very body is the treasure of the Name — found through the Infinite Guru's love.

The treasure is in this very body — dig with the Word, by the light of the Guru's love.
The deeper layer

This one says the treasure is inside this very body, and the Word is the shovel.

The hymn ends with a jeweler's instruction: soDh, search and refine this mind and body, the way rock is worked to find a vein of gold. The digging tool is given: thinking deeply on the Guru's Word.

Then the map is made plain, simple enough for a child. It is the secret this raag keeps returning to: is dayhee vich naam niDhaan hai — within this very body is the treasure of the Name. Not far off in the sky. Not only at some distant shrine. Not after death. Here, in the body you live in right now.

And the last line smiles. The finding comes by love, gur kai hayt apaar, the Infinite Guru's love. That love is the only lamp that has ever lit that mine. Think of a treasure hunt where the prize was in your own backpack all along.

A Question to Sit With

If the treasure is already inside you, what is one way you could start digging this week?
