O Nanak, if the soul-bride longs for peace, she should enshrine the Lord's Name within her mind. ||8||11||33||

In plain words

My Beloved is One — with the One alone my love is joined.

O Nanak, if the soul-bride longs for peace, let her enshrine the Name in her mind.

If it is peace you want, the whole path is one step: the Name, kept in the mind.
The deeper layer

If it is peace you want, the whole path is one step.

The bride says her heart belongs to One: so pir mayraa ayk hai, "that Beloved of mine is One." Then the verse turns to us with the simplest offer. If you want peace, and deep down everyone does, the path has one step. Keep the Name in your mind.

There are no fine print rules, no long course, no rank needed. Think of a long, twisty maze where the exit turns out to be one door you could have opened from the start.

After eight verses of weddings and loneliness, poison and pearls, the teaching folds down to one sentence. A child can carry it out of the room. In this tradition, that is exactly how you know it is the real one.

A Question to Sit With

What one small practice could you actually begin tonight — not someday, tonight?
