Every good quality we have can be traced back to the One, and wisdom shows up when we remember the Name with ease.
Guru Amar Das follows goodness back to where it comes from. Satgur tay gun oopjai — goodness grows from the True Guru. And we meet the Guru jaa parabh maylai so-ay, when God arranges that meeting. So step by step, the goodness goes back to the very first Hand that gave it. Nothing in the chain is made by us alone.
Think of a glass of water from the tap. Follow it back through the pipes, to the river, to the rain, to the clouds. It all started far beyond you.
Then comes how to practice. Sehjay naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai — remember the Name sehjay, with easy calm. This easy calm is a mark of Guru Amar Das's teaching. Wisdom is not dug out by hard thinking. It becomes pargat, shown clearly. It is like a view appearing when the fog lifts. Nothing is added. Everything is simply shown.
