O my mind, never think the Lord is far away — see Him ever present, close at hand.
He is always listening, always watching — and His Word fills everything, everywhere.
The One is never far away; the One is always right here, listening.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Ay man mat jaaneh har door hai — O my mind, do not think the One is far away. Sadaa vaykh hadoor — see the One always close by.
Thinking the One is far away is the mind's oldest mistake. The verse fixes it with three things that are always true. Sad sundaa — the One is always listening. Sad vaykh-daa — the One is always watching over us. Sabad rahi-aa bharpoor — the Word fills everything, everywhere.
Think of a parent in the next room, who hears you the moment you call. Every prayer is heard the moment it starts. Every sad feeling is seen as it comes. The faraway God we picture when we are worried has never really existed. What is real is a Listener closer than the very thought that doubts.
