Ego, "mine, mine", great anger and pride — every person is born carrying these.
But if one dies in the Shabad, all of it falls away, and the light merges into the Light of God.
Guru Amar Das is saying: we are all born with ego, anger and pride, and they fall away when the "me" dissolves in the Word.
He names what we all start with, calmly, like someone counting. Ha-umai, ego. Mayraa, the "mine, mine" feeling. KroDh, anger. Abhimaan, pride. He calls this jaat — the lot every person is born holding. There is no shame in it. It is simply the hand everyone is dealt at the start.
Then comes the one move that changes the whole game. Sabad marai taa jaat jaa-ay — if one dies in the Word, all of it goes. This is the raag's deepest surprise. Let the "owner" of all that anger and pride dissolve, and suddenly the anger and pride belong to no one.
Think of a backpack full of heavy stones. When you let go of the straps, the stones just drop. What is left is light. Jotee jot milai — that light joins the great Light of the One.
