The Ache of Being Fragile Lifts Before the One Who Isn't

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਬ ਭੇਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
janam maran dukh katee-ai pi-aaray jab bhaytai har raa-ay. ||1||
The pains of birth and death are removed, O Beloved, when the mortal meets with the Lord, the King. ||1||

In plain words

All the ache of being born and growing old and passing away — it lifts and is gone.

It goes the moment you meet the One who rules over everything.

The deep ache of being fragile and temporary lifts in the presence of the One who isn't.
The deeper layer

The deep ache of being small and temporary lifts when you meet the One.

This is the second Song of Separation, a song about missing the Beloved. It starts where the first song ended: at the meeting.

Janam maran dukh katee-ai pi-aaray jab bhaytai har raa-ay — the pain of birth and death is cut away when you meet the One, the King. That pain is the whole ache of being a fragile creature. We come and go. We gain things and lose them.

The song says this sadness does not have to be fixed one piece at a time. It simply lifts when the One is near. Think of a scared child in the dark. You do not explain every shadow. You turn on the light, and the fear is gone. Meeting heals what managing never could.

A Question to Sit With

What is a worry that gets smaller the moment you're with someone you trust completely?
