Being Cut Off From Love Genuinely Hurts

ਜੋ ਜੀਅ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬੀਛੁਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੩॥
jo jee-a tujh tay beechhuray pi-aaray janam mareh bikh khaa-ay. ||3||
Those beings who are separated from You, O Beloved, are born only to die; they eat the poison of corruption. ||3||

In plain words

When a heart gets cut off from You, it just goes round and round — born, then gone, then born again — swallowing bitterness the whole way.

Being cut off from what you love genuinely hurts — and that ache is worth taking seriously.
The deeper layer

Being cut off from the One truly hurts, and the song says so honestly.

Jo jee-a tujh tay beechhuray pi-aaray janam mareh bikh khaa-ay — those who are cut off from You go round through birth and death, eating poison.

The "poison" is not a punishment sent down from above. It is what a cut-off heart ends up swallowing. It is the bitter taste of chasing things that never fill you up. It is like eating only candy all day and feeling worse each time.

That is why these Songs of Separation matter. Being apart from what you love really hurts, and the songs do not pretend it doesn't. Naming that ache is what makes the longing to meet honest and true.

A Question to Sit With

Why do you think it hurts so much to feel far from the people and things we love?
