One who recognizes bad and good as one and the same - in this way he is absorbed into the Lord and Master. ||8||

In plain words

The one who truly serves stays close to the wise words that guide them.

And the one who can meet both good days and bad days with the same steady heart melts right into the One.

A steady heart that meets good days and bad days the same way is a heart at home in the One.
The deeper layer

The letter Ghagha names two marks of a real 'servant': staying attached to the Shabad (the guiding Word) and — the deep one — recognizing bad and good as one and the same (bhalaa buraa ik). This isn't saying nothing matters; it's the equanimity that meets both sweet and bitter days without being flipped upside down by either. The heart that doesn't lurch from delight to despair with every change is the heart that quietly dissolves into the One. Steadiness is the doorway.

A Question to Sit With

How could you stay a little steadier the next time something doesn't go your way?
