ਰਾਮੋ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤੇ ਸਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਰਾਮ ॥

True, True is the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam; the Gurmukh knows the Lord.

The Guru's Sikh, and the Sikh's Guru, are one and the same; both spread the Guru's Teachings.

The Mantra of the Lord's Name is enshrined within the heart, O Nanak, and we merge with the Lord so easily. ||8||2||9||

In plain words

True, so true, is the Name — and the one who serves with a whole heart is lovingly gathered in.

A real student and a real teacher end up as one, both carrying the same light forward. Hold that light in your heart, and you melt into the One as easily as breathing.

A true student and a true teacher become one, carrying the same light forward.
The deeper layer

The shabad closes on the beautiful mutuality of teacher and student: gur satgur kaa jo sikh akhaa-ay — the servant dedicates mind and body, and the Guru lovingly unites His servant with Himself. Then the landmark line, companion to the previous Chhant's 'Guru is God': the Guru's Sikh and the Sikh's Guru are one and the same — both spread the same Teachings, carry the same light. The relationship isn't a ladder with the teacher above; it's a single flame passed hand to hand until they're indistinguishable. And the merging is sahj — easy, as natural as breathing. Love, given fully, dissolves even the distance between student and guide.

A Question to Sit With

Who has passed something important to you that you now carry forward yourself?
