har har kartaa dookh binaasan patit paavan har naam jee-o. ||1||
The Creator Lord, Har, Har, is the Destroyer of distress; the Name of the Lord is the Purifier of sinners. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In plain words
The One washes away trouble and makes the messiest heart clean again.
Loving the One is the highest thing you can do with a life — and it brings a peace so deep you rest easy, free of worry.
The One makes even the messiest heart clean again — no one is ever too far gone.
The deeper layer
This Chhant repeats its first line as a refrain, wrapping each verse in the same warm claim: the One is dukh bhanjan — the Destroyer of distress — and paatit paavan, the Purifier who makes even the messiest heart clean. There's no one too far gone. Loving the One, the verse says, is the most exalted occupation — the best possible way to spend a life — and its fruit is peaceful ease, sleeping in peace, free of the ache of coming and going.
