Joy — such joy! I have seen the One at last, and tasted its sweetness!
It rained down into my heart like cool water, and I came home to myself, singing — and the five troublemakers inside me just ran off.
The true Guru was pleased, and I found deep ease. The Guru's sweet Word cooled and filled me, and a good friend, a Saint, spoke up for me.
Says Nanak: my heart is at one with the One. I have seen the One with my own eyes.
This is a song of pure happiness. When real joy fills the heart, the troublemakers inside just leave.
A Chhant is a joyful song-poem, often sung at weddings. This one bursts with good news. Words repeat out of sheer delight: anado anad ghanaa — joy, so much joy! Chaakhi-arhaa chaakhi-arhaa — tasted, I have tasted! It sounds like someone who cannot keep good news in.
The One is seen. The sweetness is tasted. It rains down into the heart and brings sahj, a deep and easy calm. The singer comes home to their own self, singing. And panch dusat — the five troublemakers — run off. These are the five pulls inside us: greed, anger, wanting too much, clinging, and pride.
Notice they are not fought here. Think of turning on the lights in a dark room. You do not chase the shadows out. They are just gone. Real joy does what struggling could not. It crowds out the troublemakers all by itself.
Have you noticed that when you're truly joyful, the grumpy or greedy feelings just melt away?
