My doorway is decorated, so beautiful! My guests are the beloved Saints.
The beloved Saints set all my work right. I bowed to them and began to serve them.
The One is the groom's family and the bride's family too. The One is the Master of it all.
The One sets His own work right, and holds up the whole world.
Says Nanak: my Beloved is sitting in my home, and my doorway shines.
At this great celebration, the One plays every part.
Picture a home dressed up for a wedding. The doorway is bright and decorated. The honored guests are the Sant, the beloved Saints, the good-hearted people who love the One. The singer bows to them and serves them, and they set everything right.
Then the verse opens wide. At an Indian wedding, there is the groom's side, the jaanjee, and the bride's side, the maanjee. The verse says: aapay jaanjee aapay maanjee — the One is the groom's side and the bride's side too. The One is the host and the guest, the giver and the one who receives.
So there are not really two sides meeting. There is one Life, enjoying itself from every angle. Think of a family where everyone is cooking, dancing and laughing together. Joy is not a deal between you and a far-off One. It is the one Life celebrating, and you are right inside the party.
If the same light is in everyone at a gathering, how might that change how the whole room feels?
