In plain words

The heart with good fortune written on its forehead gives itself gladly to serving.

Whoever finds the company of the holy has its deepest wishes fulfilled.

In that good company, soak in the One's love and keep the One in mind.

Doubt, clinging, wrongdoing, and division — all of these fall away.

Peace and calm fill the mind, and it sings the One's praises for joy.

Nanak says what the Guru's words taught him: the heart with good fortune written on its forehead gives itself gladly to serving.

Peace and joy arrive on their own when you turn up, help humbly, and keep good company.
The deeper layer

Peace comes on its own when you help humbly and keep good company.

Jaa kai mastak bhaag se sayvaa laa-i-aa — the one with good fortune gives themselves to serving. In the Saadh Sangat, the company of good and holy people, their deepest wishes come true.

Doubt, clinging, wrongdoing, and the feeling of being split from the One all fall away. In their place come peace, calm, and happy singing.

Look back over the whole shabad. The path has been simple all along. Love the One who never leaves. Let having enough make you gentle. Serve humbly. Keep good company. Then peace arrives by itself, the way a garden blooms when it gets sun and water. You do not have to be special. You only have to be willing to show up and help.

A Question to Sit With

When has helping others quietly made you feel more peaceful inside?
