So Much Tiredness Comes From Thinking It's All on You

bharmay janam anayk sankat mahaa jon.
I have wandered through countless incarnations, suffering terrible pain in these lives.
lapat rahi-o tih sang meethay bhog son.
I am entangled in sweet pleasures and gold.
bharmat bhaar agnat aa-i-o baho pardayseh Dhaa-i-o.
After wandering around with such great loads of sin, I have come, after wandering through so many foreign lands.
ab ot Dhaaree parabh muraaree sarab sukh har naa-i-o.
Now, I have taken the protection of God, and I have found total peace in the Name of the Lord.
raakhanhaaray parabh pi-aaray mujh tay kachhoo na ho-aa hon.
God, my Beloved, is my protector; nothing was done, or will ever be done, by myself alone.
sookh sahj aanand naanak kirpaa tayree tarai bha-un. ||3||
I have found peace, poise and bliss, O Nanak; by Your mercy, I swim across the world-ocean. ||3||

In plain words

I've wandered a long, long way and carried a lot of heavy weight. I got caught up in sweet pleasures and shiny gold.

But now I've taken shelter with the One, and found real peace — because nothing was ever done by me alone anyway.

By Your kindness, I have found calm and joy, and I cross the wide ocean of this world.

So much tiredness comes from thinking it's all on you — the relief is realizing you were never carrying it alone.
The deeper layer

This one says so much tiredness comes from thinking everything is up to you.

The verse tells the shape of a whole journey. Bharmay janam anayk — I wandered through many lives. The traveler carried heavy loads of grabbing and mistakes. Now, at last, he comes home.

The answer is shelter. Ab ot Dhaaree parabh muraaree — now I have taken the protection of God. And he finds sarab sukh, total peace.

The line that opens the peace is a quiet setting-down of a burden. Mujh tay kachhoo na ho-aa hon — nothing was done, or will be done, by me alone. Think of a group project where you were sure you had to do everything, and then you find your teammates were helping the whole time. You were never carrying it alone. Set the load down.

A Question to Sit With

When has it helped to remember you don't have to do everything by yourself?
