Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You've lifted up even those who barely believed. So the ones who truly trust have nothing to fear.
Listen to the One's praises with your ears, in every way you can. Sing them, full of love, and find a treasure in your heart.
Imagine the whole earth as paper and a forest as pens, with the wind doing the writing.
Still, no one could ever finish describing how wonderful the One is. So I hold on to the One's feet, my safe place.
This one says the One is too wonderful ever to finish describing.
It opens with a kind reassurance. You lifted up even those who only pretended to believe. So bhagtah sansaa ka-un — what worry should true devotees have? If kindness reaches even the barely-trying, the truly loving have nothing to fear.
So listen. Jayn kayn parkaaray har har jas sunhu sarvan — in every way you can, hear the One's praises with your ears. Then sing them, full of love.
Then comes a picture people remember for a long time. BasuDh kaagad banraaj kalmaa — the earth as paper, the forest as pens, and the wind as the writer. Imagine all of nature turned into one giant writing machine. Still, bay-ant ant na jaa-ay paa-i-aa — the end of the endless One could not be found. So Nanak holds on to the One's feet, his safe place. Some things are too big to finish describing. That is exactly why we love them.
What's something so wonderful you could never finish describing it, no matter how long you tried?
