O Nanak, never the Naam, even for a moment; bless me with Your Grace, Lord God! ||1||

In plain words

The sweetest thing to do is speak of the One together, in good company.

Nanak prays: let me never forget the Name, even for a moment. Please bless me with that.

The sweetest thing is sharing what matters most with people who love it too.
The deeper layer

This one says the sweetest thing is to speak of the One together with good people.

The opening Shalok is a short verse that sets the tone. Subh chintan gobind raman nirmal saaDhoo sang — the best thought is speaking of the One in the pure company of the holy. Not alone, and not something grander. Just this: sharing what matters most with others who love it too.

Then a simple prayer: naanak naam na visra-o ik gharhee — Nanak asks never to forget the Name, even for a moment. Kar kirpaa bhagvant — please bless me with this. Think of friends around a campfire, talking about what they love most. That warmth sets the tone for this Chhant, a song about staying awake to what is precious, together, through the night.

A Question to Sit With

What's something good that becomes even better when you share it with others?
