In plain words

My heart is decorated and glowing, and I'm filled with joy, because I heard the One is coming.

I met my Master and found peace. I am full of joy and delight. He is close to every part of me. Every sorrow left, and my whole being felt new again.

I thought of the One, and my heart's wish came true. My wedding day is a happy day. Nanak prays: meeting the Lord of all good things, I found every joy.

The joy of getting ready for someone you love to arrive — and the newness you feel when they do.
The deeper layer

This one is about the happy feeling of getting ready for someone you love.

Mayree sayjrhee-ai aadambar bani-aa — my bed is decorated in splendor. Man anad bha-i-aa parabh aavat suni-aa — my mind is full of joy, because I heard God is coming. Think of getting the house ready for a grandparent who is coming to visit. You tidy and decorate, too happy to sit still.

Then the meeting itself: sorrows leave, and body, mind, and breath all turn fresh and new. Paraan man tan sabh haray — breath, mind, and body are all green again. The wedding-day language is the tradition's way of naming the deepest joy there is: being joined with the One. What the wakeful heart watched for all night finally comes. Everything tired in it is made fresh.

A Question to Sit With

What's the feeling of excitedly getting ready for someone you love to come visit?
