Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I turn my whole heart toward You and admit I can't do this alone — please keep me close; I'm so hungry to meet You.
And oh, how blessed the day You finally held me — every ache vanished, and my hopes all came true at last.
The Chhant closes where so much of the raag closes — in helpless, happy surrender resolved into meeting. I am helpless — please keep me under Your protection; my soul hungers for You. The honesty of I can't do this alone is not weakness here; it's the doorway. And then the joy of arrival: how blessed was the day the One embraced me — every ache vanished, all my hopes fulfilled. The whole Chhant — the wall of Maya, the fish and the deer and the rainbird, the folded hands, the 'take me by the arm' — resolves into this embrace. All the longing was worth it; the hungry heart is met and held, and the aching stops. This closes the long run of Guru Arjan's Aasaa Chhants on a note of fulfilled love.
What does it feel like when something you longed and waited for finally, truly happens?
