In plain words

A hundred times a day, I would gladly give myself for my teacher.

My teacher can take ordinary people and help them become bright and good, quick as anything.

A good teacher can help ordinary people become bright and good — quickly, with one true understanding.
The deeper layer

The great Aasaa ki Vaar begins by thanking the Guru, the teacher who wakes people up.

A Vaar is a hero's ballad. Usually it is sung about warrior kings and their battles. Here the hero is the Guru, and the victory is a changed human heart.

Balihaaree gur aapnay di-uhaarhee sad vaar — a hundred times a day, I would give myself for my Guru. That is thankfulness pouring out, not once, but over and over.

Why so thankful? Jin maanas tay dayvtay kee-ay — He made angels out of ordinary people. Real teaching changes people. It helps ordinary folks become bright and good.

Karat na laagee vaar — and it took no time at all. It can happen fast, in the space of one true understanding. Think of a math problem you stared at for an hour, until a good teacher said one sentence and it all clicked.

A Question to Sit With

Who has helped you become a better version of yourself?
