In plain words

The grip of the glittering, grasping stuff has let go of me — and oh, I'm so happy!

I don't feel cold or lacking anymore; I don't need the beggar's patched coat.

Letting go of the frantic 'I need more' feeling doesn't leave you poorer — it leaves you warm and happy.
The deeper layer

The Pause bursts with relief and joy: Maya is dead, O mother, and I am very happy! The endless grasping and wanting — the thing that kept him anxious and cold — has simply lost its hold, and the feeling is pure lightness. His image: I don't wear the patched coat, nor feel the chill — he's no longer a shivering beggar, huddled and lacking. When the grip of always-wanting-more finally loosens, what floods in isn't emptiness but warmth and enough. For a child: letting go of the frantic 'I need more' feeling doesn't leave you poorer — it leaves you warm, happy, and no longer cold.

A Question to Sit With

Have you noticed that wanting less can actually make you feel warmer and happier inside?
