You Don't Beat Bad Habits by Willpower but by Love

ਬਲਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਾਪੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਉ ਜਾਇਆ ॥

I am a sacrifice to my Father, who gave me life.

He put an end to my association with the five deadly sins.

I have conquered those five demons, and trampled them underfoot.

Remembering the Lord in meditation, my mind and body are drenched with His Love. ||2||

In plain words

I'm so grateful to the One who gave me life and freed me from my five worst habits.

I've gotten the better of them at last, and now my whole being is soaked in love.

You don't beat your worst habits by willpower alone — you fill up with love, and they lose their power.
The deeper layer

Kabir gives thanks to the Father who gave him life and, more, freed him from the five deadly sins — the grasping, anger, greed, attachment, and pride that trouble every heart. He says he has conquered them and trampled them underfoot — but notice he credits the Father, not his own willpower. The victory over your worst habits isn't finally a solo achievement of gritting your teeth; it comes with love, as love fills you. Remembering the Lord, my mind and body are drenched in His Love — and it's that drenching that does the conquering. Fill up with love, and the five troublemakers lose their power.

A Question to Sit With

Which of your 'troublemaker' feelings gets quieter when your heart is full of something good?
