Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Let your own body be the churning pot and your mind the churning stick.
And gather up the good, rich curds — the wisdom of the true Word.
Kabir extends the image with delight: make your body the churning jar and your mind the churning stick. You already have everything you need to do this churning — your own body and mind are the equipment. No temple, no special tools, no faraway pilgrimage; the whole 'dairy' is inside you. And what you gather from the steady churning is the curds of the Shabad — the rich, nourishing wisdom of the true Word, collected little by little. It's a wonderfully democratic and down-to-earth picture of the spiritual life: something you do at home, in yourself, with what you already have, patiently gathering goodness the way a family gathers butter and curds.
What good could you 'gather' little by little, using only your own steady attention?
