The Churning Is Turning the One Over in Your Heart

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਬਿਲੋਵਨਾ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
har kaa bilovanaa man kaa beechaaraa.
The churning of the Lord is to reflect upon Him within your mind.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

By Guru's Grace, the Ambrosial Nectar flows into us. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The real churning is simply turning the One over in your heart, again and again.

And as you do, a sweet nectar begins to flow into you, given by grace.

The 'churning' is simply turning the One over in your heart again and again — and a sweetness flows in as a gift.
The deeper layer

Kabir names plainly what the whole butter-image means: the churning of the Lord is to reflect upon Him within your mind — the 'churning' is simply remembrance, turning the One over lovingly in your heart, again and again. That's the whole practice, said as simply as it can be said. And the reward isn't something you manufacture by effort; by Guru's Grace, the Ambrosial Nectar flows into us — as you steadily churn, a sweetness begins to flow, given as a gift. Your part is the patient, faithful turning; the sweetness that gathers is grace's part. Do the steady, humble churning, and trust the nectar to come.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like when steady, patient attention slowly turns into something sweet?
