Real Love Keeps the Door Open and Waits

ਜੇ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਪ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
jay at karop karay kar Dhaa-i-aa.
If the son, in anger, runs away,
ਤਾ ਭੀ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਰਾਖਸਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
taa bhee cheet na raakhas maa-i-aa. ||2||
even then, his mother does not hold it against him in her mind. ||2||

In plain words

Even if a child gets angry and runs away,

their mother still doesn't hold it against them in her heart.

Even when a child runs away in anger, real love keeps the door open and waits — no mistake is big enough to close it.
The deeper layer

Even when we get angry and run away, the love does not switch off.

Jay at karop karay kar dhaa-i-aa — even if the son gets very angry and runs off, taa bhee cheet na raakhas maa-i-aa — the mother still does not hold it against him.

This is the hardest case. The child storms out and slams the door. But her love stays on. She keeps the door open and waits. Think of the porch light a family leaves on for someone coming home late. It is on before they even turn onto the street. Anyone who has messed up badly, gotten angry, or turned away can hold this picture. That does not end the love. The One, like the truest mother, keeps loving through our worst moments and waits for us to come home. No mistake is big enough, and no anger fierce enough, to close that door.

A Question to Sit With

Does it help to know that even when you mess up badly, love keeps the door open for you?
