You Don't Earn Forgiveness; Just Come and Ask

Why not destroy my sins? ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O One, I am Your child —

so won't You wipe away my mistakes and hold me close?

You don't have to earn forgiveness — just come as the child you are and ask, trusting you're loved.
The deeper layer

You are the One's child, so you can simply ask to be forgiven.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Raam-ee-aa ha-o baarik tayraa — O Raam, the One who lives in everything, I am Your child. Kaahay na khandas avgan mayraa — so why not wipe away my faults?

Kabir does not beg or grovel. He asks the way a child asks, with trust. A child who knows they are loved is not afraid to say, "I'm sorry, can we fix it?" You do not have to earn forgiveness or prove you deserve it. You just come as you are and ask. The One loves you at least as much as a mother does. And a mother, we already know, forgives.

A Question to Sit With

Is it easier to ask for forgiveness when you're sure the other person loves you no matter what?
