Don't Cast Your Treasure Before Those Who'll Trample It

ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਮੇ ਰਮਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥
raam raam raam ramay ram rahee-ai.
Remain absorbed in the Lord's Name, Raam, Raam, Raam.
ਸਾਕਤ ਸਿਉ ਭੂਲਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saakat si-o bhool nahee kahee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Do not bother to speak of it to the faithless cynic, even by mistake. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

Just stay quietly absorbed in what you love — remembering the One, again and again.

You don't need to cast your treasure in front of those who'll only trample it.

Instead of casting your treasure before those who'll trample it, stay quietly soaked in what you love.
The deeper layer

The Pause gives the alternative to arguing: remain absorbed in the Name — instead of spending yourself trying to win over the scornful, simply stay soaked in what you love. And the gentle advice: don't cast it before the mocker, even by mistake — don't hand your most precious thing to someone who'll only stomp on it. This isn't contempt for anyone; it's protecting what's sacred to you and not wasting your peace on pointless battles. Keep your treasure close and alive in your own heart, share it where it's welcome, and let the mocking go. Your calm, steady love is worth more than any argument you could win.

A Question to Sit With

What's a good thing you'd rather keep alive quietly in your heart than argue about?
