Real Permanence Is a Heart Rooted in the One

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਬਸਾਈ ॥
gurmat raamai naam basaa-ee.
Under Guru's Instructions, one whose mind is filled with the Lord's Name,
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥
asthir rahai na katahooN jaa-ee. ||4||
becomes permanent, and does not go anywhere. ||4||

In plain words

Through the Guru's teaching, the One's Name fills a heart.

That heart becomes steady and stays. It does not go anywhere.

Real permanence isn't built of power — it's a quiet heart rooted in the One that never passes.
The deeper layer

This one says: the heart filled with the Name is the one that truly lasts.

"Gurmat raamai naam basaa-ee" — through Gurmat, the Guru's teaching, the Name comes to live in the heart. "Asthir rahai" — that person becomes steady and lasting, and does not go anywhere.

After the great king who vanished, Kabir names what does not. That contrast is the whole point. Raavan, with all his power, was gone without a trace. But a humble heart rooted in the One becomes steady and lasting.

Not because the body never dies. It is because the heart is tied to the One who never passes, and so it shares in that lasting.

Think of a tall tower of blocks and a tree with deep roots. The tower looks grand, but one bump knocks it down. The tree bends in the storm and stays.

This turns upside down what the world calls strong. The mighty king was fragile. The quiet, loving heart is the one that cannot be shaken. Real lasting is not built from power. It is built from being joined to what lasts.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a person truly steady and unshakeable, if it isn't power or wealth?
