All the World's Power Can't Free You; Only the One

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਲੋਈ ॥
kahat kabeer sunhu ray lo-ee.
Says Kabir, listen, people:
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥੮॥੨੧॥
raam naam bin mukat na ho-ee. ||5||8||21||
without the Lord's Name, no one is liberated. ||5||8||21||

In plain words

Kabir says, listen, everyone:

it's holding onto the One — nothing else — that sets a heart truly free.

All the power in the world can't set you free — only holding onto the One does, and that's open to anyone.
The deeper layer

This one says: all the power in the world cannot set you free. Only the One can.

"Kahat kabeer sunhu ray lo-ee" — Kabir says, listen, people. "Raam naam bin mukat na ho-ee" — without the Name, no one is set free. Raam is a name Kabir uses for the One. Mukat means freedom, being set free.

After the whole story of Raavan's rise and vanishing, the ending is simple. Power and grandeur cannot free you. Holding on to the One does.

Free here means free of the fear, the grabbing and the shakiness that even the mightiest king could not escape.

Think of a kite. It flies high and free because someone is holding the string.

And this freedom is open to anyone. No fortress or army needed. Just a heart turned toward the One.

For a child, the whole shabad lands as a clear and happy truth. Measure yourself and your future by love of the One, which lasts and sets you free — not by power or show, which vanish.

A Question to Sit With

What does it mean to be truly 'free' — and why can't that be bought with power or riches?
