The strings and wires of the musical instrument are worn out, and I am in the power of the Lord's Name. ||1||

In plain words

I've worn a thousand costumes and played a thousand parts before — but that restless changing is over now.

The old instrument is worn out, and I rest quietly in the One.

After all the restless searching and trying-on of different selves, there's a deep rest in simply belonging to the One.
The deeper layer

Kabir speaks as someone whose long restless searching has finally come to rest. He pictures himself as having taken many forms — worn many costumes, played many parts, chased many things — but now that endless changing is over. His image: the strings of the instrument are worn out — the frantic music of the grasping ego has played itself out — and I am in the power of the Name, resting in the One. It's the peace that comes after a long, tiring performance finally ends. For a child, the feeling is one of arrival: after all the trying-on of different selves and chasing of different things, there's a deep rest in simply belonging to the One. The restless music stops, and quiet comes.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like when a long, tiring search or effort finally comes to rest?
