In plain words

In the pool there is one lotus of incomparable beauty.

It blossoms on and on, pure and sweet-smelling.

The swans pick up the bright jewels there, and take into themselves the very essence of the Lord of all.

The wise are like swans who sip only what is pure — and so take the best of life into themselves.
The deeper layer

The One is like a perfect lotus that never stops blooming.

Ayko sarvar kamal anoop — in the pool there is one lotus beyond compare. That lotus is the One. Sadaa bigaasai — it blossoms all the time. Its beauty is not one moment. It keeps opening, like a flower that never closes.

The swans stand for wise, awake people. In Indian poetry, the swan is the bird wise enough to sip only what is pure. Oojal motee choogeh hans — the swans pick up the bright pearls. They take the One's goodness into themselves, the way you soak up kindness from being near a kind friend.

A Question to Sit With

What would change if you became choosy, like a swan, about what you take in?
