Sikhism·Raag Aasaa·Shabad 38
Verse 3 of 5

Without the Name, the Mind Never Settles

koorh kamaavai aavai jaavai.
One who practices falsehood comes and goes.
kahan kathan vaaraa nahee aavai.
By speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found.
ki-aa daykhaa soojh boojh na paavai.
Whatever one sees, is not understood.
bin naavai man taripat na aavai. ||2||
Without the Name, satisfaction does not enter into the mind. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever lives in falsehood keeps coming and going.

No amount of talk can find the One's limits.

Whatever the eye sees, it does not really understand; and without the Name, the mind never settles into contentment.

Without the Name, the mind never settles — no amount of seeing or talking fills it.
The deeper layer

Three failures of the false life: it keeps cycling, it cannot talk its way to the One, and it sees without understanding. The diagnosis lands on restlessness — "without the Name, satisfaction does not enter the mind." Contentment is not produced by getting more; it arrives only with the Name.

A Question to Sit With

What have you noticed about chasing satisfaction by getting more and more?
