The Sacred Place Was Inside You All Along

ਪੂਜਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਰਜਾਲਿ ॥

har mukh paath parhai beechaar. ||3||
read aloud the Lord's Word, and contemplate it. ||3||

In plain words

Love the One with your whole heart, and let your hunger for things burn away.

Look only for the One, and seek no other.

Wake up to what is real at the secret inner doorway, the Tenth Gate; say the One's Word aloud, and turn it over in your mind.

Wake up at the secret inner doorway — the sacred place was inside you all along.
The deeper layer

This one says the holiest place is not far away. It is already inside you.

Poojaa paraym means "let your worship be love." Maa-i-aa parjaal means "burn up your hunger for Maya." Maya is the pull of things, money, and showing off. Ayko vaykhahu means "look only at the One."

Then comes the Dasam Duaar, the Tenth Gate. The body has nine openings, like the eyes, ears, and mouth. The Tenth Gate is a hidden inner doorway where your awareness meets the One. Cheenhai tat means "come to know what is real" there.

Think of searching the whole house for your glasses, then finding them on your own head. You do not travel to this holy place. You wake up to it. And the verse ends with a practice: say the One's Word aloud, and think it over.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, inside yourself, when you want to feel closest to what is real?
