The Deepest Love Holds On Through Anything

ਜਉ ਤਨੁ ਚੀਰਹਿ ਅੰਗੁ ਨ ਮੋਰਉ ॥
ja-o tan cheereh ang na mora-o.
Even if You cut my body apart, I shall not pull my limbs away from You.
ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰੈ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਤੋਰਉ ॥੨॥
pind parai ta-o pareet na tora-o. ||2||
Even if my body falls, I shall not break my bonds of love with You. ||2||

In plain words

No matter what I have to go through, I will never let go of You.

Whatever happens, I will not break my bond of love with You.

The deepest love holds on through anything — a bond so strong that no hardship can break it.
The deeper layer

This one is about a love that holds on through anything.

This is the heart of the shabad. Ja-o tan cheereh ang na mora-o — whatever happens to my body, I will not pull away from You. Pind parai ta-o pareet na tora-o — even if my body falls, I will not break my bond of love.

Kabir promises that nothing could make him let go of the One. No hardship, no pain, not even death. His strong words are his way of saying "whatever it costs." The point is the holding on, not the harm.

Think of two best friends who promise, "We'll always stick together, no matter what." That is the deepest kind of loyalty. It is a bond so strong that no trouble can break it.

To love the One like that, and to decide, "I will never let go, whatever comes," is the most faithful thing a heart can do.

A Question to Sit With

What does it mean to love someone so faithfully that nothing could make you let go?
