Sikhism·Raag Aasaa·Shabad 64
Verse 3 of 5

The Path Works Through Love, Not Motions

gur darsan uDhrai sansaaraa.
Through the Guru's system, the world is saved,
jay ko laa-ay bhaa-o pi-aaraa.
if it is embraced with love and affection.
bhaa-o pi-aaraa laa-ay virlaa ko-ay.
How rare is that person who truly loves the Guru's Way.
gur kai darsan sadaa sukh ho-ay. ||2||
Through the Guru's system, everlasting peace is obtained. ||2||

In plain words

The Guru's way saves the world — but only for those who take it up with real love.

How rare is the person who truly loves this path.

Yet for the one who does, a peace arrives that never ends.

The path works through love, not going through the motions — and that kind of love is rare.
The deeper layer

A crucial qualifier: the Guru's way "saves the world" only "if it is embraced with love and affection." The path is not a mechanism that works on anyone who goes through the motions; it works through love. And love of the path is "rare" — not because it is hidden, but because real love always is. The reward is everlasting peace.

A Question to Sit With

What is the difference between following the rules of something and truly loving it?
