Verse 4 of 5

No One Crosses Alone; One Lifted, the Family Rises

gur kai darsan mokh du-aar.
Through the Guru's system, the Door of Salvation is obtained.

Serving the True Guru, one's family is saved.
niguray ka-o gat kaa-ee naahee.
There is no salvation for those who have no Guru.
avgan muthay chotaa khaahee. ||3||
Beguiled by worthless sins, they are struck down. ||3||

In plain words

The Guru's way opens the door to freedom; serving the true Guru, your whole family is lifted with you.

Without a Guru to follow, there is no way through —

people are fooled by worthless wrongs and knocked down by them.

No one crosses entirely alone — and when one person is lifted, the whole family rises with them.
The deeper layer

Two notes here. First, salvation overflows: "serving the True Guru, one's family is saved" — the awakened soul lifts the household (cf. Shabad 39). Second, the stark line "there is no salvation for those who have no Guru" — not a sectarian claim but the conviction that no one crosses alone, by sheer self-effort; everyone needs a teacher to break the spell of "worthless sins."

A Question to Sit With

Who has helped you see through something that was fooling you?
