In plain words

The Gurmukh roots out self-importance from inside,

and — soaked in love, having set down worldly clinging — turns the spotless Word over in the heart.

Says Nanak: the Name is what saves us.

Set down pride and clinging, soak in love, hold the Word — that is the saved life.
The deeper layer

This one paints a picture of the Gurmukh, the person who faces the Guru.

Such a person clears out self-importance from inside. They are soaked in the One's love, and they have set down their tight grip on worldly things. They keep turning the pure Word over in the heart.

Each step is a letting go. Letting go of pride. Letting go of clinging. It is like emptying a backpack full of rocks, so there is room to carry something good.

What fills that room is love. And the last line says it plainly: naanak naam savaaranhaar — O Nanak, the Name is what saves us.

A Question to Sit With

What would you have to set down to make more room for what matters most?
