The Beloved Lord God is his constant companion. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One's servant lets go of his own rank and pride.
He gives his mind and body to the true Guru and takes shelter there.
His one great honor is that the Name lives in his heart — and the Beloved is his constant companion.
Lay down the rank the world gave you, and let the one honor be the Name in your heart.
The servant begins by setting aside his own social status — laying down the rank the world assigns. In its place comes a single honor: "the Naam is in his heart." This is the great reversal that runs through Aasaa — the dignity of the Name replacing the dignity of caste (cf. Shabad 39).
