In plain words

The Gurmukh carries the light of devotion inside the heart.

Understanding his own self, he meets the One.

The road to the One runs straight through honestly knowing yourself.
The deeper layer

Real worship is a light inside you, and you find it by knowing yourself.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Gurmukh bhagat ghat chaanan ho-ay — a Gurmukh, someone who turns toward the Guru, carries the light of bhagat, loving devotion, inside the heart. It is an inner light, not an outer show.

What switches that light on? Aap pachhaan milai prabh so-ay — by understanding your own self, you meet the One. It is like looking honestly in a mirror before a big day. You see what is really there, and then you can grow. The road to the One runs through honest knowing of yourself. Another shabad in this raag (Shabad 42) says the same: "understand yourself."

A Question to Sit With

What have you learned about yourself that brought you closer to what's real?
