In plain words

When the One pours out mercy, it leads you to meet the true Guru.

Then your devotion holds steady and your whole attention rests on the One.

Those soaked in devotion have a name that rings true. Says Nanak: soaked in the Name, peace is found.

Steady devotion isn't worked up — it's led by mercy and rests, centered, on the One.
The deeper layer

Steady devotion is a gift of mercy. You cannot force it.

Har kirpaa karay satguroo milaa-ay — when the One is kind, He leads us to meet the true Guru. So the whole path starts with kirpaa, mercy. Then devotion becomes steady. It stops flickering on and off like a performer's show. Attention rests on the One.

Think of a candle flame. Out in the wind it jumps around. Inside a glass lamp it burns still and clear. Mercy is that glass. Those soaked in devotion have a name that rings true. Their good name is real, not a show. Naanak naam ratay sukh ho-ay — says Nanak, soaked in the Name, peace comes.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your attention settle and stay, instead of flickering all over?
