ਨਾਮਹੀਨ ਕਾਲਖ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥

Those who lack the Naam have their faces rubbed in the dirt of Maya.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
naam binaa Dharig Dharig jeevaa-i-aa. ||3||
Without the Naam, cursed, cursed are their lives. ||3||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Those without the Name have their faces rubbed in the dirt of grasping;
without the Name, their lives are a sorrow.
A life with no center to it ends up grasping at dust.
The contrast is blunt: the Name-less are "rubbed in the dirt of Maya" — humiliated by their own grasping, a life that comes to nothing. (The literal "cursed, cursed are their lives" is rendered here as a deep sorrow, the natural grief of a life that missed its center, not a curse hurled at persons.)
A Question to Sit With
What gives a life its center, so it isn't just grasping at one thing after another?
