Aasaa, Fourth Mehl:
ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੀ ਨਾਮੋ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
naam sunee naamo man bhaavai.
I listen to the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Naam is pleasing to my mind.
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
vadai bhaag gurmukh har paavai. ||1||
By great good fortune, the Gurmukh obtains the Lord. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I listen to the Name, and the Name delights my mind.
By great good fortune, the one turned to the Guru finds the One.
The joy of the Name arrives in the listening itself — practice and delight are one.
A gentle opening: listening to the Name brings delight, and the Gurmukh "obtains the Lord" by fortune. The pleasure of the Name is not a reward earned but a sweetness that arrives in the listening itself — the practice and its joy are one.
A Question to Sit With
