O mortal, hook up your unstable mind like an ox, and irrigate your fields with the Lord's Name, through the Guru's Teachings. ||3||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In the field of your body, plant the Name, and the One will sprout there like a lush green field.
So yoke your restless mind like an ox, and water your fields with the Name, through the Guru's teaching.
Yoke your restless mind back to the work, plant the Name, and your life turns green.
The image turns constructive: "in the field of the body, plant the Lord's Name," and it "will sprout... like a lush green field." The remedy for the wandered ox is to yoke the unstable mind back to the plough — harness the restless mind to the Name and irrigate with it. The body is the farm, the mind the ox, the Name the seed and the water (cf. Shabad 44).
A Question to Sit With
How could you gently bring your wandering mind back to what you're actually doing?
