jan naanak bolay barahm beechaar.
Servant Nanak chants the wisdom of God;
jo sunay kamaavai so utrai paar.
one who listens and practices it, is carried across and saved.
janam na marai na aavai na jaa-ay.
He is not born, and he does not die; he does not come or go.

He remains blended with the Lord. ||4||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Nanak speaks the wisdom of the One;
whoever listens and lives it is carried safely across.
Such a one is not born and does not die, does not come and go — they stay merged in the One.
Don't just hear the wisdom — live it, and you are carried across.
The close offers the teaching to all: "one who listens and practices it, is carried across." Hearing must become living. And the reward is the end of the cycle — "not born, does not die" — the deathlessness of the soul merged in the One.
