In the beginning it was sent as a helper.
But it has taken over the whole world, every place and every space.
It has spared no holy riverbank or shrine, and no Yogi or one who has given up the world.
It has spared none of those who keep reading the holy books.
Maya was sent to help. The trouble is that she went too far.
Dhur kee bhayjee aa-ee aamar — she was sent from the very start as a helper. So Maya, the world's pull, has a good place in the One's plan. She is not an evil rival.
The problem is overreach. She has spread over the whole world, every place and every space. She has not spared holy riverbanks or places of pilgrimage. She has not spared Yogis or those who give up home to live simply. She has not spared those who keep studying the old holy books. The point is not against any of these people. It is that no amount of outer holiness keeps her out on its own. Think of a helpful dog that has taken over the couch. You do not hate the dog. You just teach it its place again. That is why Maya can be put back where she belongs.
Can something good in the right amount become a problem when it takes over?
