Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
There is only One. Its Name is Truth. It is the Creator of all. It is fearless and full of love, beyond time, never born, shining on its own. And the One is found by the Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
Of all the months, this one is blessed: the month when spring comes and stays forever.
So blossom like a flower, my mind! Keep the Lord of the World in your heart, always and always.
When your heart remembers the One, it feels like spring all year long.
Basant means spring, and this whole raag (a musical mood) is the spring raag. It opens with the Mool Mantar, the opening words of the Guru Granth Sahib: there is One Creator, whose Name is Truth, without fear and without hate.
Then comes the picture. Think of a garden in March, when everything turns green almost overnight. Guru Nanak says a heart can feel like that all the time. Sadaa basant means always spring. This spring is not on a calendar.
Parfarh chit means blossom, my heart. Gobind is a name for the One who looks after the whole universe. When you keep the One in mind, you stay awake and alive inside, like a garden that never loses its green.
What does it feel like inside you when something you love finally comes back or comes alive?
