obtain the greatest peace; their souls are so divine. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those who serve You, Master,

find the highest peace, and their souls shine with the divine.

Serving and loving the One lights up your inmost self with deep peace.
The deeper layer

Serve the One, and you find the highest peace and a soul full of light.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It is short and radiant: those who sayv (serve, love) the One find param sukh, the highest peace, and become aatam dayv, their inmost self lit up, divine. Service here is the doorway to peace and inner light. It is the quiet promise the rest of the shabad unfolds.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you do for others that leaves you feeling peaceful inside?
