Sikhism·Raag Basant·Shabad 19
Verse 3 of 5

Words That Ring True

tis jan kee hai saachee banee.
True is the speech of that humble being;
gur kai sabad jag maahi samaanee.
through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is spread throughout the world.
chahu jug pasree saachee so-ay.
Throughout the four ages, his fame and glory spread.
naam rataa jan pargat ho-ay. ||2||
Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Lord's humble servant is recognized and renowned. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

True are the words of that humble person.

Through the Guru's Word, they spread through the world.

Through all four ages, their true glory spreads.

Dyed in the Naam, that humble person becomes known to all.

Words from a true heart carry further than loud ones.
The deeper layer

A person dyed in the Naam speaks true words, and their glory spreads far.

Saachee banee is true speech; chahu jug pasree saachee so-ay means a true renown spreading through all four ages. Renown here is the natural light of an aligned life, not fame chased for its own sake.

A Question to Sit With

Whose quiet words have stuck with you longer than anyone's shouting?
