Sikhism·Raag Basant·Shabad 66
Verse 9 of 9

Here, There, Everywhere

it ut daykh-a-u sehjay raava-o.
I see Him here and there; I dwell on Him intuitively.
tujh bin thaakur kisai na bhaava-o.
I do not love any other than You, O Lord and Master.
naanak ha-umai sabad jalaa-i-aa.
O Nanak, my ego has been burnt away by the Word of the Shabad.
satgur saachaa daras dikhaa-i-aa. ||8||3||
The True Guru has shown me the Blessed Vision of the True Lord. ||8||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I see You here and there, and I rest in You with ease.

I love no one but You, my Master.

Nanak says: the Word has burned my ego away.

The True Guru has shown me the sight of the True One.

See the One here and there, and resting in it becomes natural.
The deeper layer

When the Word burns ego away, the One is seen everywhere and loved above all.

It ut dekhao sehje raavo — seeing the One here and there, dwelling on it with sahj ease. Haumai sabad jalaaiaa: the ego is dissolved in the Word, and the true darshan is revealed. The hymn ends where it began — the thirst to see, now satisfied.

A Question to Sit With
